They feel helpless for no reason at all

blackout

The electricity was off this morning, a transformer blew, I heard it about 6 am. The interesting thing around here is that only part of the building goes off, so we really are not that helpless. For instance, the bathrooms are off, the living room is on, the stove is off, the fridge is on and so on. That is how it is in a three-phase building.

Anyway, you would think that the world came to an end because people don't know what to do and they feel so helpless. Starting early in the morning, neighbors began calling me, as if I could get the electricity on with magic. They just can't cope. They have to know in their heads that it will all be alright and the lights will come on eventually. Yet they panic.

The funny thing is that by 9 am all the electricity was back on. So all they had to do was remain in bed, sleep and then when they woke up, it would be as if nothing had happened. I am not even on the condo board, yet they feel secure calling me for some reason since the condo board is all a bunch of ninnies. I actually got a call from the vice president of the board, at the crack of dawn, too, and I assured him that the big bad boogie man would not hurt him in the dark.

It's embarrassing to a degree to see how helpless people can be when the electricity goes off and only a part of it at that. I felt like saying, "Imagine being in Haiti right now, you want to really feel helpless?" But I just told them it would all be alright and I rolled over and went to bed and was awakened at 9 am when the lights came on.
